“Woody's Way”
(c)2010 Bob Atkinson
wander over to the beach
pass Huntington's Main, a nice street
but nothing here that goes beyond
and brings me feelings like I am home
many people talking loudly
at the tables of sidewalk cafes
similar to the U of A
just something missing, don't know what
move on to find that special spot
ah, Seal Beach, the Pier Street
love that parking without meters
cafes here, cafes there
seems we're late, it's almost twelve
wanted breakfast, guess we're late
until we wander into Woody's place
“Yes” we do it all day long
and “Yes” we'd love to have you stay
mmmmmmmmmmm
Liz is sweet, a pretty face
she fits the mood
with style and skill
with style and skill
she says things right
which calms our fears
which calms our fears
an makes us feel she's quite sincere
we sit in the patio chairs
a nice view from here
next table over, is occupied
as we order coffee, smile and hug
“oh, they're leaving can we change?”
a man cleans the table quickly
with style and grace
nearer the sidewalk, a nicer place
“can we sit there?” we ask
he smiles and wipes the deck for us
we move our forks, knives and spoons
to the table overlooking the tourists
he wipes off our first table with a smile
so nice a place to be unoccupied
he knows it won't be long before
another couple comes for food
Maya and Lexi move along
as if on wheels, floating to a song
Stephanie moved around to look
and help out her friends where she could
her daughter won't be along
for a short while, then she'll come
and make Steph smile when she giggles
waves and sneezes as babies do
when middle tickled
as if all this fun, for which we'd pay
were what we'd get for the ticket rate
were the total of our time well spent
watching puppies on the floor recline
our food comes, and it is sublime
'taters cooked with all the spices
eggs and bacon, done just right
coffee best we could imagine
friends we made, as we ate
pets were good, wish ours was too
sidewalk near with those who love
the beach city ambiance
for which we'd come
we wish to thank Liz and Maya
Lexi and Stephanie, Stephanie's baby girl
and the man, who was so nice
to clean our first table
so shortly occupied
