"Western Lore Upon the Screen" by Bob Atkinson

"Western Lore,
Silver Bullets on the Silver Screen"
****

(C)2010 Bob Atkinson
Looking up and across the room
the theater was an empty box
nobody seemed to care at all
about how Cowboys rode

I saw the film, it did depict
some dopey characters and such
as we've seen before
of the new, there wasn't much

larger than life the characters
were mean and had true grit
there were some blood and guts
we've had enough of it

but we've also seen those scenes before
shoot 'em ups on bar room floors
we were not impressed
was simplistic,
and not in the least realistic

did not our imagination excite
or our tongues bite
no drama in the drama there
of those idiots, we didn't care

happiness is a state of mind
and my mind wasn't thrilled
that history was torn apart
with realities distorted
as our ancestors were killed

they could have shown
the real wild west
on their reel wild west show
but those whose monies
were given out
the story tightly controlled

I fear I will not learn a thing
when to the movies I go
about myself or others
just ten buck will I blow

we have to learn to take the past
as something of long ago
that brought us all together
as one
no longer are we foes

they could have done it differently
Bob said they tried and failed
but given thought and integrity
the stories will sell themselves
