“the Key That Didn't Fit”
(c)2010 Bob Atkinson
he took the key out of the hole
gave a puzzled look to it
was the same one he had used
for the last five years it fit
slid it again into the slot
wouldn't turn a bit
maybe this wasn't his house
could be on the wrong street
could be on the wrong street
but, his slippers were by the door
and his dog was barking loud
he had this color painted it
of which he was quite proud
looking at the mailbox
there was taped a note
upon it she had written
his life into a hole
"Hunny, I changed the locks
you're not welcome here no more
can't stand your company
and the lies that you have told”
so he went to the Coffee House
to let his fears unfold
about being homeless, so suddenly
no money, and no hope
called up a friend to tell her
of this he wasn't proud
things could be worse
though, he didn't know how
the friend said “come on over
I've got a bed for you
it's large and you will like it
perfect just for two”
we can start our lives all over
without fighting over who
is right or who is not sincere
that's something we both don't do
been a long time since this happened
wasn't in my plans to do
but when heaven asked me to her home
my life began anew
